The Water Cycle describes the continuous movement of water above, on, and below the surface of the Earth. The Sun's energy evaporates water stored in the oceans, seas, lakes and rivers, which later condense as clouds in the atmosphere. Clouds release water as rain or snow, which eventually runs into the rivers, lakes and seas. The water cycle has been running on the Earth for billions of years, keeping the overall balance of water on Earth fairly constant.
