• The sun is the closest star to earth.  If we didn't have the sun we wouldn't be able to survive. There would be no life on earth at all. 
• The sun keeps the earth warm,  it makes the seasons and the weather, it helps the plants that give us oxygen and food that grows.  

• We can also use this hot star for energy.  The energy we get from the sun is clean.  The reason why it is clean is because it does not produce pollution like some other resources.
• That means energy we use from the sun is safe for our planet.  It is also a resource that does not run out. We can use the solar rays we get from the sun for electricity or heat.

• We can use solar energy and have it turned into electricity by using solar cells. 
• The solar cells have a special name called photo-voltaic cells. 
• Some people use solar energy in their home.  
• We can also use them to charge batteries

• Solar Thermal energy used to heat water.

• Solar energy used to cook instead of using a gas or electric oven.  

• This house is a solar house that is run on complete solar energy.
• If more houses were made like this our environment would be cleaner and save our other natural resources like oil, coal, and natural gas.  
• It will also help our ozone layer because there will be less pollution.
