| Solar Panels |
by Jeremy Levine Design on Flickr |
|
Solar Panels are a natural source of energy. They use light energy from the sun to generate electricity through the photo-voltaic effect. Solar Panels are very efficient because their is no waste generated to effect the environment and they require low maintenance. Although these are very efficient they are expensive and hard to build.

| Windmills and Sailboats on the Ocean |
by C. G. P. Grey on Flickr |
|
These are Windmills - a machine that converts the wind energy into rotational energy. Originally, windmills were developed for milling grain for food production. In the course of history, the windmill machinery was adapted to many industrial uses. Most windmills built today are wind turbines used to generate electricity or windpumps used to pump water.

Hydro-power is the power derived from the energy of falling water. We use hydro-power to power homes and cities nearby to the energy source and many other uses. Hydropower is green, renewable, cheap energy and doesn't release any harmful pollutants.

| The solar oven |
by Abri_Beluga on Flickr |

This is a Solar Oven. It uses sun's renewable energy to cook or warm up food. It may not be the most efficient oven but it doesn't take any energy to use. All you need to make a solar oven is a box and some tin foil.

| Hydraulic sluicing |
by Powerhouse Museum Collection on Flickr |
|
This is hydraulic slicing. Hydraulic slicing is a system used for mining. It would send high pressured water through the mine removing sediments. The water would continue to carry it until it gets separated in the hope to find gold or tin. This was much faster then panning for gold and tin but was harder to construct.

This is a oil drilling platform also known as an Oil Rig. These platforms would drill oil from natural resources and store them till being shipped to shore. Oil rigs gave us access to fossil fuels beneath the ocean floor.

| Old Mining Cart |
by Hussain Khorsheed on Flickr |
|
This is an old mining cart. These carts were used to transport ores and materials through the mine especially coal mines. Miners would sometimes have mules pull the carts through the mining shaft. This improved the speed of mining coal drastically. If it wasn't for mine carts, there would be rail roads.

| Interior of breaker, boys at work |
by j3net on Flickr |

These kids are referred to as "breaker boys." These kids were a big part of coal production. They would separate the impurities from coal in the coal breaker. Some elder men were sent to be a breaker if they could no longer work in mines because of age, disease, or accident. When public disapproval of the employment of children for breaker boys was announced in the 1880's, that seized to exist till the 1920's.

These are cogs. These are used in machinery and even in transportation. These cogs can change the direction, speed, and torque of the power source. Cogs were used in powered mine carts to carry resources faster and longer.

| East Texas Oil Well Pump |
by rcbodden on Flickr |
|
This is an oil well pump. They pump out oil from deep unreachable areas. The oil is then pumped out and used or filtered into many different uses. Usually, natural gas is produced along with the oil. Oil wells can vary from 100 barrels of oil a day to 100,000 barrels.
