A hurricane is a huge storm! A hurricane can be 600 miles across. Their winds are at 75 to 200 mph over an ocean. The evaporation of ocean water makes their power stronger. They rotate counter-clock wise around the eye. Hurricanes are the most biggest storms and make a lot of damage.

Hurricanes only form over really warm ocean water 80 degrees F or warmer. The warm ocean water makes energy for the hurricane. From the outside of the hurricane, light winds move it and let it grow. The Coriolis Force is used to make the spin in the hurricane. It becomes very weak near the equator, so they don't form there.

The center of the storm or "eye" is the calmest part. In the center of the hurricane are only light winds, there is also fair weather in the center. I always thought the middle was the worst part but it's not. The eye is also dangerous because people think that the hurricane is over and go outside. They can't go outside until the other half of the hurricane is over.
