Egg

 

 

The egg is the first stage of butterfly

 life cycle. It is about the size of a

 pinhead. The adult lands on a flower

 and lays all her eggs at a time.

Larva

 

 

The larva or caterpillar is the second stage of the butterfly life cycle. When the larva first hatches usually the first thing it does is eat its eggshell.

Pupa

 

Once the larva becomes a certain size it turns into a pupa. It hangs  from a leaf or twig and forms a hard covering.

Adult

 

Once the pupa hatches it is then an adult butterfly. It looks amazingly different from the larva. Its wings

are still wet so it hangs from the  leaf/twig and dries its wings in the sun.
